Ducky One 3

Everything you need to complete your Ducky One 3 setup

The Ducky One 3 is a classic from one of the most respected names in the keyboard hobby. Available in multiple sizes, it features a hot-swap PCB, PBT double-shot keycaps, and Cherry MX switches. Unlike most enthusiast boards, it actually ships with keycaps — but that doesn't mean there's nothing left to add.

What ships in the box

The One 3 ships with PBT double-shot keycaps pre-installed, Cherry MX or Gateron switches, and a detachable USB-C cable. It's one of the most complete out-of-box packages at its price point.

Should you replace the keycaps?

The included PBT double-shot keycaps are genuinely good — better than what most competitors ship with. You don't need to replace them. But if you want a specific color scheme, profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT), or novelty set, the Ducky One 3 supports standard layouts in all sizes. The TKL and full-size versions have the best keycap set compatibility.

Hot-swap and switch options

The One 3 hot-swap PCB accepts 3-pin and 5-pin MX-compatible switches. It ships with Cherry MX (Red, Blue, Brown, Black, Speed Silver) or Gateron options depending on the retailer. Cherry MX switches are solid but not the smoothest linears available. Many enthusiasts upgrade to aftermarket switches within 6 months — Gateron Oil King or Gateron G Pro Yellow for linears, Boba U4T for tactiles.

Desk setup and accessories

The One 3 is a classic, sober-looking keyboard that pairs well with almost any desk setup. A desk mat is the highest-value accessory addition — it ties the setup together visually, reduces sliding, and softens the sound. A wrist rest helps on full-size models where the extended reach to keys can cause wrist strain over long sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Ducky One 3 have hot-swap sockets?

Yes. The Ducky One 3 introduced hot-swap across the entire lineup, which was a significant upgrade from earlier Ducky models. It supports both 3-pin and 5-pin MX-compatible switches.

What sizes is the Ducky One 3 available in?

The One 3 is available in full size (100%), TKL (87 key), 65%, and mini (60%). The TKL and full-size versions have the widest accessory and keycap compatibility.

Is the Ducky One 3 wireless?

No. The Ducky One 3 is a wired keyboard only. If you need wireless, Ducky does not currently offer BT versions — consider the Keychron K or Q Pro series instead.

How good are the keycaps that ship with the Ducky One 3?

The Ducky One 3 ships with PBT double-shot keycaps, which are genuinely above average for an included set. They resist shine (unlike ABS), have crisp legends, and feel good under the fingers. They're not on par with premium aftermarket GMK or ePBT sets, but they're good enough that many owners never feel compelled to replace them.

Does the Ducky One 3 support N-key rollover?

Yes. The Ducky One 3 supports full N-key rollover (NKRO), which means every simultaneous keypress is registered regardless of how many keys you hold down at once. This is important for gaming and fast typists. NKRO is active by default over USB. The keyboard also includes 6-key rollover mode for compatibility with older USB controllers.

What switch options are available for the Ducky One 3?

The Ducky One 3 is available with Cherry MX switches (Red, Blue, Brown, Black, Speed Silver, Silent Red) and with Gateron switches depending on the retailer and region. Cherry MX is the standard offering in most markets. All versions of the One 3 use the hot-swap PCB, so you can replace the included switches with any 3-pin or 5-pin MX-compatible option without soldering.

Pro tip

The Ducky One 3 comes with Cherry stabilizers that benefit from lubing even fresh out of the box. The spacebar in particular is the component most likely to rattle. A 10-minute stabilizer lube job with dielectric grease on the wire and Krytox 205g0 on the housing transforms the spacebar from tolerable to satisfying.
